Drought Break

The first splash,
a drum crash
on hardpan.
Tin roof hiss,
a slow kiss
that grows
into rushing
percussion.

New voices rise,
warbles and sighs,
from beneath the shelter
of tree ferns–
a chorus begins,
magpie trills
and woodwind,
as sound
to the outback
returns.

  1. We have finally seen the end of a five year drought and now the towns to the south of us are under flood watch as the deep snow in the Sierra Nevada is succumbing to the sudden warm weather. You have used imagery to perfection to describe this.
