I’ll bend, you know.
Each time you kick
or stomp me underfoot.
Though sustenance
is rare as winter sun,
I’ll thrive, you know
and grow to cover
every corner of the meadow
where you lie.
I’ll rise, you know.
Rise and rise–
I’ll rise.
Ryan Stone
A departure into nature for you, Ryan. I love it — and the metaphor.

Ryan, I did receive your reply. That crazy thing called, “self-doubt” was the hang up. Thank you, I just sent my reply. ๐

There is so much to be learned from that field of grass. This piece speaks to me of resilience, strength, determination and stubbornness and I really love how the title could be the close of “Grass’s” letter to those who wish to test its strength or a simple way to say mind the grass. I like, too, that you remind us that the same grass we trod upon will one day cover our resting places (for those who wish to be interred) and that despite our own ends, that grass will continue to thrive. You have great command over the use of figurative language and I love the multiple layers to your work.

So happy that you took so much away from this one. I was worried it may be a little obscure but you’ve set my mind at ease with your great feedback. Thank you!

I am happy to have done so and I don’t think you really have to worry because it appears you have many astute readers. This is the kind of poetry I search out and love. Poetry with depth and an inherent ability to connect readers with themselves in their own spaces and times while doing so on many levels. You are most welcome!
