Although science, with clinical wisdom
declared her not yet a person,
a heartbeat argued defiantly
for a night.
We visit the cemetery —
hands entwined, minds
in different hemispheres,
hearts mangled.
In a quiet corner
where the sun lingers late in summer,
where gelid moans soften in winter,
we become broken pieces
of something once much stronger.

This is heartbreaking and so beautifully written. The part which stands out to me the most is: “Hands entwined, minds in different hemispheres, hearts mangled…” You are so good at “showing” so much so succinctly. Amazing work.

The ability to bring out emotions whole on paper just as it is inside, raw and unadulterated, is something else. I wish you loads of strength and faith!

And what a fine painter too! As for the writing, can’t get better than this. The sense of loss leaving your readers with a heavy heart, if not in tears.

Oh, I’m so glad for the blessing of your 2 sons. It’s a fine poem indeed, and beautiful. I often use my writing as an instrument of healing–so much cheaper than professional therapy, and more effective for me π

Indeed, and what a joy that is π Thomas has all the good blogs/readers, which is why I went there to gather some up when I opened this most recent blog–beats the heck out of typing in “poetry” and trying to find blogs you actually want to read regularly…there’s a lot of wasted words out there in the blogosphere π
